Key Topic 5: Items of Value - Patient Items and Programmes

Patient items and programmes (including associated resources and services) must be designed to assist in the care of patients, for one or more of the following purposes:

  • To increase access and affordability of AZ products
  • To enhance therapy compliance
  • To otherwise assist in the care of patients (including the education, diagnosis, treatment or health of patients)

Examples of acceptable patient items and programmes (including associated resources and services) include:

  • Vouchers, rebates, coupons and co-pay assistance cards
  • Anatomical models or other reference or demonstration items to be kept in an external stakeholder’s place of business to educate patients
  • Educational materials, such as informational sheets or mobile applications on disease awareness, disease management, adherence to medicine regimens, healthy lifestyle choices or the availability of patient programmes (including patient assistance programmes) or support groups
  • Motivational information or patient self-assessment and tracking tools
  • Personal care items to help address side effects of AZ products
  • Call centres and disease awareness programmes
  • Diagnostic/screening and nursing programmes and items, such as diagnostic medical equipment or nursing services, or items linked to the safe and effective administration of AZ products
