Key Topic 3: Donations

Contributions [the item or benefit given] to non-profit organisations or charities must aim to support one of the company areas of focus for Community Investment which are to:

  • improve health and healthcare in the local communities in which AZ employees live and work; or
  • promote science education and skills, in particular among young people; or
  • improve healthcare in vulnerable communities through initiatives that help to strengthen healthcare capabilities.

These areas of focus include activities aimed at:

  • increasing public understanding of a disease through healthcare organisations or patient groups with related expertise;
  • promoting health and wellbeing, including support for preventative medicine and public health initiatives;
  • supporting innovative programs aimed at preventing and managing chronic disease;
  • addressing unmet health needs in under-served and unserved populations;
  • supporting health-related research conducted by non-profit organisations as part of a wider Community Investment initiative and directed toward the public good; and
  • encouraging science education among young people

Any contribution to a non-profit organisation that purchases AZ products or determines formulary status must be reviewed to ensure that it cannot be misconstrued as an attempt to exert improper influence on the recipient organisation. The same is true of a non-profit organisation that is affiliated with any such organisation.

AZ must not require that it be the sole supporter of a patient group or any of its programmes. The independence of patient organisations must always be respected.
